Reliance Jio writes to DoT citing urgent need for spectrum auctions

Reliance Jio writes to DoT citing urgent need for spectrum auctions, says other telcos opposing auction to stifle competition

Reliance Jio has written to the Secretary of the Department of Telecom highlighting the urgent need for spectrum auction. "We understand that few service providers might be opposing spectrum auctions to stifle competition as they have amassed large amount of spectrum through mergers and acquisitions and they are also losing customers every month," said Jio in the letter.

The telco has said that any further delay in auctions will lead to a rapid deterioration in 4G speeds. The letter reiterates that unsold spectrum is better than unauctioned spectrum and that an immediate auction can generate up to Rs 25,000 cr in revenue for the exchequer.
