Parliament passes the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, Why are the views divided? | EXPLAINED

Furore over three agri-related bills has gripped the nation. Even as these bills are passed in Parliament, the opposition is pleading with President Ram Nath Kovind to return these bills without signing. Parliament passed the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce Bill, Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill in this week, while the opposition boycotted the proceedings. Views on these bills are divided on whether or not they will benefit the farmers and give them more financial and operational freedom.

We put the spotlight on The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill under which products like cereals, pulses, oil seeds, potatoes etc are removed from the list, resulting in deregulation of these commodities unless in times of war, famine or natural calamity. Why is this bill being opposed and what will change for farmers once it turns into a law. ET NOW's Dimple Sharma simplifies THE ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES (AMENDMENT) BILL 2020.
