As part of the merger deal agreed in March, Vodafone India and Idea are selling the masts they own separately from their Indus Towers joint venture. Idea's share of the sale to American Tower will be 40 billion rupees, while Vodafone India will get 38.5 billion rupees.

    Idea Cellular seeks NCLT approval for merger with Vodafone

    New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) Consequent to the approval given by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for Vodafone-Idea merger, Idea Cellular has filed an application before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for its approval, a company statement said here on Tuesday. According to the statement, the application was filed on Monday before the Ahmedabad Bench of the NCLT. "Following the receipt of approvals from Competition Commission of India on 24 July 2017 and the Stock Exchanges/SEBI on 04 August 2017, and in accordance with the terms thereof, Idea Cellular has yesterday filed an application before the National Company Law Tribunal, Ahmedabad Bench, for approval of the merger of Vodafone India and Vodafone Mobile Services with the Company," Idea Cellular said in a statement.

    Idea Cellular Ltd, India's third-biggest telecoms operator, posted its second straight quarterly loss after a rival carrier's free services hit sales and eroded margins. The free offerings of Reliance Industries' telecoms venture Jio, which started operations late last year, have sparked a fierce price war in the world's second biggest mobile phone market, forcing rivals such as Idea to launch cheap service plans. Idea, part of the Aditya Birla conglomerate, on Saturday said it made a consolidated net loss of about 3.28 billion rupees ($51.06 million) in the three months to March 31, compared with a net profit of about 4.52 billion rupees a year ago.
