Xiaomi Mi Band 4: 10 reasons why Mi Band 4 seems like a great upgrade over Mi Band 3
Xiaomi hosted its annual ecosystem event in China on Tuesday. At the event, Xiaomi launched several smart home products -- washing machine, dryer, kitchen vent fan, smart cooking pots, smart speakers -- but the star of the event was the long-awaited Mi Band 4. This is the successor to the last year's Mi Band 3 that is currently available for Rs 1999 in India. The fourth generation smart Mi Band looks like a big upgrade over the Mi Band 3. The Mi Band 4 comes with some brand new fitness features.
Given that Xiaomi has always launched the fitness band that it announced in China in India soon after the announcement, it is expected that the Mi Band 4 too will come here in the coming months. So the question is: should you wait for the Mi Band 4 to launch in India or opt for the Mi Band 3, which is already available here?
Price: The first bit why one should wait for the Mi Band 4 is its price. For the price, Mi Band 4 brings some cool features to consumers. Xiaomi has launched NFC version of Mi Band 4 as well as its non-NFC version. In addition, Xiaomi has also launched a special Avengers Edition Mi Band 4 that comes with an Avengers logo on it. The standard Mi Band 4 comes for RMB 169 (roughly Rs 1,700). The NFC version of the Mi Band 4 is priced at RMB 229 that roughly translates to Rs 2300. Lastly, the Avengers Edition Mi Band 4 comes at RMB 349 which is around Rs 3,500. In India, Mi Bands have always been priced under Rs 2,000 and the scenario is going to be the same with the Mi Band 4. Right now, the Mi Band 3 is available for Rs 1999 in India.
Display: For the first time Xiaomi has launched Mi Band with a multi-colour display. The Mi Band 3 came with a black and white display, but this has changed with the Mi Band 4. The all-new Mi Band 4 comes with a 0.95-inch AMOLED colour touch-enabled screen that offers resolution of 240 x 120p. The screen of the Mi Band 4 is protected with a layer of 2.5D curved glass on top.
On-screen notifications: Similar to the previous generation Mi Bands the new Mi Band 4 is also capable of alerting users with all kinds of notifications like text messages, WhatsApp messages, fitness details, among other things. The Mi Band 4 can be connected to smartphones via Bluetooth.
Comes in funky colours: The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is currently available only in black colour. With the Mi Band 4 Xiaomi brings several colour options to the consumers. Xiaomi has launched the Mi Band 4 in six colours. We expect that in India too Xiaomi will bring all the six colours to attract more consumers.
NFC support: The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 comes in three variants -- standard Mi Band 4, Mi Band 4 with NFC support, and Avengers Edition Mi Band 4. With the NFC supports users will be able to may payments using the smart band which wasn't possible in the previous generation Mi Bands. To make the payments the users will need to swipe the screen to show QR code on their Mi Band 4.
Built-in microphone: The Mi Band comes with lots of firsts. This is for the first that a Mi Band comes with a built-in microphone to enable voice commands. The built-in microphone enables the new voice commands and Xiao AI voice assistant. With the AI voice assistant onboard Mi Band 4 users will be able to control other Xiaomi smart devices including smartphones, air conditioner, Mi smart Led bulb, among other things with the smart band itself. With the Mi Band 4 the users will also be able to control music playback of their smartphones.
Improved fitness features: The Mi Band 4 comes with several fitness features like step counting, sleep monitoring, among other things. Similar to the Mi Band 3 the Mi Band 4 is also capable of detecting several activities like running, jogging, cycling, among others. Similar to the Mi Band 3 the Mi Band 4 also includes heart rate sensor but it is way more improved now. This means users can expect close to accurate results.
Six-axis sensor: The Mi Band 4 comes packed with an upgraded six-axis sensor that detects different swimming activities such as Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly stroke, and Medley.
Water resistant: This feature comes from Mi Band 3 to Mi Band 4. The fourth generation Mi Band comes with 5ATM rating for water resistance. This suggests the Mi Band 4 can sustain water droplets and splashes but this doesn't mean the band can survive if dipped in a bucket of water for a long time.
Battery: Xiaomi claims the Mi Band 4 can deliver 20 days battery life on a single charge.
Overall, the Mi Band 4 seems like a great upgraded over the Mi Band 3 in terms of both design and features and this makes it worth the wait. Xiaomi India hasn't revealed any details about the India launch of the Mi Band 4 but going by the last one year we expect Mi Band 4 to hit the Indian market soon, possibly in a month or so.
