Watch: Ranveer Singh raps Apna Time Aayega at Berlin International Film Festival 2019

Ranveer Singh enthralled the crowd at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival with his rap.

Ranveer Singh brought the house down at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) when he rapped Apna Time Aayega from Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy.

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause as Ranveer, who grabbed eyeballs with his bright pink and black animal-print tuxedo jacket, took to the stage. The actor was at the Berlin International Film Festival for the world premiere of Gully Boy.

Gully Boy is about Murad (Ranveer), a rapper from the slums of Mumbai, who wants to rise above his socio-economic status to become a star. Despite being discouraged over and over again, he manages to overcome his obstacles and take the underground rap scene by storm. The film is inspired by the life of underground rappers Divine and Naezy.

In fact, Divine helped Ranveer with vocal training as well as composing tracks. "Divine is such a generous artist. He gave him tips on throw and basic technique, and stayed back and let him emerge," Zoya revealed to India Today magazine.

The filmmaker also revealed that Ranveer picked up the nuances almost immediately. "He's so sharp with picking up stuff. Because he has it in him, the training was a very short process," she said.

At the trailer launch of Gully Boy, Ranveer said that he was "born to do" the film. "When somebody told me about the script of Gully Boy, I told them that it is my film. If any other actor would have been a part of this film instead of me then I would have got burnt with jealousy. I was born to do Gully Boy and I knew only I can pull off this character," he said.

Produced by Tiger Baby Productions and Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy also features Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz, Amruta Subhash and Siddhant Chaturvedi in pivotal roles. The film is scheduled to open in theatres on February 14.
