I Wasn't Expecting To Play: David Miller After His Match-Winning 62 Against Delhi Capitals

South African swashbuckler David Miller rolled back the ‘Killer Miller’ days of 2013-14 against Delhi Capitals on Thursday with a brilliant half-century to lay the cornerstone of an eventual win for Rajasthan Royals.

Coming into bat after the Royals had lost the likes of Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson, David Miller took the game by the scruff of its neck and peeled off a match-winning 43-ball 62- an innings which included seven fours and two sixes.

But Miller, who had featured in just one game for the Rajasthan Royals last year besides missing the first game this season, wasn’t even expecting to feature in the playing 11 but he was ready to take the opportunity if and when it arrived.

And, while he may have been dismissed for 62, he knew that his South African teammate Chris Morris will seal the deal for his team.

“Good to get out there and hit the few balls. We were in a bit of trouble but that first one (boundary) was always a big relief. I knew when I got out that big man Morris will take us over the line,” David Miller said in a video posted by the IPL’s official website.

“Coming from last year, I wasn’t expecting to play but you are always ready to play. Stokes, unfortunately, missed out with a broken finger so that’s a big loss to us but it allows others to come in,” he added.

With 27 required off the last two overs, the million-dollar man Chris Morris (36* off 18 balls) smashed a couple of sixes off Kagiso Rabada in the 19th over before doing an encore in the final over bowled by Tom Curran to seal the deal for the Royals.
