Link Aadhaar - phone number via OTP

Meanwhile, to link Aadhaar with phone number, you are, for now, asked to give away your biometric details to your telecom operator -- which may create a lot of security concerns. Taking that into account, UIDAI is trying to make it easier and safer for people to link Aadhaar with phone number. It is going to roll out a new process from December 1 for Aadhaar linkage. The new process will allow you to link your phone numbers with Aadhaar by sitting at home and without sharing your biometric details with the telecom operators. This can be done by One-time-password (OTP).

Telecom operators are instructed by the UIDAI to connect the 12-digit identification number via OTP received on their mobile phones. Early last week, telecom operators including -- Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL and the rest -- were asked to present a blueprint for the same (OTP linking process), which has now been approved by the UIDAI. "Their (telecom operators') plans have been approved... They have come and we have told them they will implement (the process) from December 1," UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey had told PTI. He also says that the new methods will "help achieve the (re-verification) task in the given timeframe (February 6 deadline) and make the whole system more secure as it will prevent misuse of mobile number by unscrupulous elements." You can link your phone number to Aadhaar by sitting at home.
