The Toyota Yaris has not exactly been a success in the Indian market and some of that blame can be put on our increasing affinity towards SUVs. However, along with SUVs, crossovers are also starting to become popular. Case in point is the Toyota Yaris.
Toyota could be considering the Yaris Cross for India to woo buyers. At one point, Toyota did enter the crossover genre with its Etios Cross, which was later discontinued. To revamp its foray into this segment the Yaris Cross could be a natural fit.
The Yaris Cross is not just a face-lift of the existing model, but a complete crossover. It actually makes the Yaris a lot more desirable with design elements like black cladding, black roof, side mirrors along with an updated front bumper and most importantly new 16 inch alloys.
Additionally, to do justice to the Crossover tag, the Yaris Cross has a 30 mm ride height increase and has a tweaked suspension. As said earlier, the Yaris Cross unlike the Etios Cross is not just a plain sticker job, but a bonafide rugged crossover. The interior is also all black unlike the sedan and comes with sporty elements while the engine continues to be the ‘petrol’ along with a CVT option, which is also present in the sedan albeit now BS6 compliant.
We expect the Yaris Cross to be a flagship variant in the Yaris range so expect prices to rise but the Cross elevates the Yaris to new levels of desirability which should regain lost ground in the sales battle for Toyota in the compact crossover/SUV space.
