The Hyundai Venue compact SUV is all set for a launch and dealership sources have indicated that the manufacturer is planning an aggressive price-tag for the same. Do note that the automatic Hyundai Venue will be the only SUV in its class to have a 7-speed dual clutch. Currently the Ford EcoSport has a proper torque-converter automatic while the Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon has pseudo-automatics aka AMT gearboxes.
That said, the Venue would be the only SUV in its class to have both a turbo petrol and a DCT. However Hyundai is limiting the availability of the DCT petrol model with three trim levels. Of the variant options there is a dedicated variant solely for the AT petrol which is christened as SX+.
Interestingly, to keep the price in check, the Venue 1.0 DCT will not be available in the top-spec SX(O) trim, which the 1.0 petrol manual would be available in. Which means buyers of the automatic Venue would miss out on features like side and curtain airbags, rear seat armrest with cup-holders, rear wiper, remote smartphone function, 60:40 split rear seats.
That said the SX+ does have the Bluelink connectivity features, push button start/stop, 8 inch touchscreen AVN, wireless charging, air purifier and Day/night auto mirror.
So then, what about the pricing that we talked about at the beginning? Well the Venue top-end SX+ would be well below Rs 11 lakh (at around Rs 10.7 lakh ex-showroom.) That means it is cheaper than the top-end EcoSport AT and marginally more expensive than the Nexon AMT. Do you think this is a competitive pricing strategy?
