Tihar inmates will now bend & stretch from New Year day
Tihar Jail has now made yoga mandatory in its premises, and the new rules are set to be implemented from January 1.
The initiative is aimed at preventing inmates from committing suicide.
Every prisoner will be made to do Anulom Vilom and Pranayama in Tihar Jail.
So far, yoga was limited to only few cells in Tihar under the 'Peace Mail Program' but now it will be made applicable to all.
According to Ajay Kashyap, DG of Tihar Jail, MOU has also been signed with the ministry of AYUSH, in which all the 16 Jails of Tihar will implement the yoga course prescribed by it.
"Prisoners who have been released will also participate in it. About 1,000 inmates will be given a job," Kashyap said.
The new prison manual has also been notified by the Delhi government. However, before the implementation, Tihar will first conduct skill programme for its inmates.
Vartika Nanda, author of book called 'Tinka-Tinka Tihar', and prison reformer said, "Yoga not only brings mental and physical balance but also inspires prisoners for a positive life."
The dreaded criminals of Tihar Jail are bringing out their own art of patches of Gautam Buddha, Krishna and Hanuman. The art and talent of inmates of Tihar Jail can be judged from the fact that about 350 paintings related to pollution will be made by Tihar prisoners, which will be displayed in the newly constructed government buildings. A prisoner named Ramesh Akhtar made a statue of Hanuman while doing meditation.
