Tata Tiago facelift spied, hatchback to get some changes on the exterior

Launched in April 2016, Tiago has been the flag-bearer for Tata Motors and one of the company's largest selling cars. It competes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Hyundai Santro.

Tata Motors is testing the facelift version of Tiago. A couple of camouflaged pictures of the much-loved hatchback have surfaced online and it can be gauged from them that the car will get some tweaks on the outside.

Launched in April 2016, Tiago has been the flag-bearer for Tata Motors and one of the company's largest selling cars. It competes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Hyundai Santro. The spied photographs, made available by GaadiWaadi.com, show minor tweaks on the front fascia of the hatchback. The ORVM is painted in orange, while there are the same 14-inch alloy wheels, which are available with the present Tiago XZ variant.

The new design looks bold and the company seems to have taken some inspiration from 45X, Tata Motors' yet-to-be launched premium hatchback that will challenge Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20.

Tata Tiago is available in two engine options -- a Revotron 1.2-litre, three cylinder petrol motor and a Revotorq 1.05-litre, three cylinder diesel powertrain. Both the engines come with multi drive modes and are mated to a manual five-speed transmission. The petrol variant has an option for a five-speed automatic transmission as well. While the petrol motor makes 85 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and churns out 114 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm, the diesel variant produces 70 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and is good for 140 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm.

The facelift version of Tiago is expected to have the same engine specifications without any changes. With the new safety norms coming into play from April 2019, features such as driver side airbag, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder and high speed alert, are expected to be made standard across all the variants of the upgraded hatchback.

The spied pictures of the facelift come on the heels of Tata Motors discontinuing Tiago XB, the erstwhile entry-level version, and making Tiago XE the new base variant.

Tiago XB was devoid of even basic features such as an air-conditioner. The hatchback is currently priced between Rs 4.20 lakh and Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi.)

The company has already made safety features like ABS (antilock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution) and corner stability control, as standard across all the variants of Tiago. This is confirmed by the hatchback's brochure available online. Previously, these features were only provided in the XZ, XZA and XZ+ variants of the car.
