The upcoming Tata Gravitas has been spotted while testing. Spy pics uploaded by Rushlane reveal a fully camouflaged test vehicle running a BS-VI complaint, 2.0-litre engine that is also featured on the Tata Harrier. The spy pics also reveal a pull-up style arm rest for the driver.
Called the H7, the all-new Tata Gravitas is a seven-seat version of the Tata Harrier. The SUV was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2017 under the Buzzard name. The company could possibly sell the SUV under the Buzzard name in international markets.
The 2.0-litre featured on the Harrier produces 138bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. The engine will arrive with a different state of tune for the Gravitas, and speculations are that the engine will deliver 168bhp of power, and the same 350Nm of torque.
Transmission options will include a six-speed manual, and a six-speed automatic unit that could be offered with higher trims.
The Gravitas is longer and taller than the Harrier, however the wheelbase, and the width of the SUV remains the same. The Gravitas features a larger rear section to enable third row seating. In addition, the third row seats will feature air conditioning vents, and easy access via the one-touch collapsible second row seats.
The all new Tata Gravitas is based on the Omega Arc platform. The platform has been sourced from the Land Rover's D8 Monocoque chassis.
The Tata Gravitas is expected to make its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020, and expectations are that the company will showcase other products as well. There is no information about the prices for the Gravitas SUV, however we expect the vehicle to be priced between Rs 13.50 lakh and Rs 17.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Once launched, the Tata Gravitas will compete with the Mahindra XUV500, and the soon-to-be launched six-seater MG Hector.
Thoughts About The Tata Gravitas Spotted Testing
We're not entirely sure of the design of the Gravitas. It does remind us of the first generation Tata Safari though. It will be interesting to see how this SUV performs against MG and the other mid-sized SUVs in the market.
