Premier Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan reportedly may pull out of the upcoming resumption of the Pakistan Super League 6 (PSL 2021) in order to play in his country’s own Dhaka Premier League (DPL) edition in 2021. The DPL 2021 begins on May 31st.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) was suspended in March 2021 mid-tournament after several players and support staff tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, as the PSL 6 bi-bubble was willingly breached by the players and franchise owners.
This led to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) postponing the tournament indefinitely and launching an inquiry into the breach of the bio-bubble. It was recently reported that the PCB wants to host the remainder of the PSL 2021 in June month and has shortlisted either Karachi or the UAE as the venues.
Due to the limited timeframe for the resumption of the tournament, the PCB had to hold the player draft again for overseas players, as many of them would not be able to play in the PSL 2021 tournament. Shakib was one of three Bangladesh cricketers — along with Liton Das and Mahmudullah — who were picked by different franchises in the replacement draft for the remainder of the PSL.
Shakib Al Hasan Will Not Play In The PSL And Instead Opted To Be Part Of Our Team In DPL
An official of one of the teams participating in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC), revealed that Shakib Al Hasan had submitted a letter to the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), that he was interested in playing in the Dhaka Premier League tournament for the MSC team this year.
“We have submitted a letter signed by Shakib to CCDM that says he is keen to take part in the competition for us. He will not play in the PSL and instead opted to be part of our team in DPL. He is a free player because he was not part of the 2019-20 DPL due to his ban and now as he is eligible to take part and we have shown our keenness to take him in our side. BCB is yet to grant him for us but we hope to get the permission soon,” Tarikul Islam Tito, a top official of MSC told Cricbuzz.
Shakib Al Hasan has been drafted for the PSL 2021 by Lahore Qalandars, while Mahmudullah and Liton Das were signed by Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings respectively.
