The Sex and the City revival show And Just Like That is in the process of selecting some new cast members, but one major character will, unfortunately, be missing.

Jason Lewis, who played Samantha's love interest Jerry “Smith” Jerrod in the show's last season as well as in the two following films, had confirmed he will not be reprising his role.

In an interview with The Daily Front Row, the actor was asked whether he had been contacted to take part in the HBO revival: "I have not, but I would be the last to know!

"As much as I appreciate the flattery, the conversation is about the girls," he added.

While significant, his omission is not surprising as his character was mainly linked to Samantha and actress Kim Cattrall already confirmed she didn't want to return to the show either.

HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys explained that: "Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.

"[Parker and King] are trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you're 30, you may not have when you're 50."

Lewis echoed that sentiment admitting that he believes that Smith and Samantha won't be together anymore and this stage in their life: "I think that they moved away from each other. I think the was was only going to go towards a bigger ego, and Samantha was there to be a big character. But I think they’d still like each other!"
