Samsung Galaxy S10 tipped to come with Infinity-O cutout display, triple cameras and in-display fingerprint sensor
We have been pretty intrigued by Samsung's foldable phone lately, but do not let that distract you from the fact that the company is also working on the launch of Galaxy S10 in February around MWC. As the tenth anniversary flagship, the Galaxy S10 is expected to get some unique new features to make it look special. Rumours so far have been a little choppy and inconsistent about the design and whether or not Samsung will be going for an in-display fingerprint sensor. But tipster Evan Blass has now provided his first set of leaks about the upcoming flagship, giving us a more reliable idea of what to expect.
According to a tweet by Blass, the Galaxy S10 will come an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, as previously rumoured. What's really interesting, however, is that the Galaxy S10 will come with a "punch hole" display with a cutout for the selfie camera. Samsung at its developers conference last week revealed that it is working on a few new display styles that come with unique notches/ cutouts such as the Infinity-U and Infinity-V. The cutout that Blass is talking about is not exactly a notch, but rather a hole, which suggests this could be the Infinity-O display. In a separate tweet, Blass said that the cutout shares certain similar features as a typical notch, but he adds that cutouts cannot be hidden in the notification bar.
Cutout display aside, we still have no idea what the final design will look like but we can expect the bezels to be trimmed down even further as compared to the Galaxy S9. Samsung will likely optimise the cutout area with its new One UI software interface that will be arriving with Android 9 Pie. The company showed off the minimalistic UI on its foldable phone last week, but it will be coming to non-foldable Galaxy devices as well. The Galaxy S9, S9+ and Note 9 are expected to get One UI based on Pie sometime in January. The Galaxy S8 and Note 8 series is also reportedly getting One UI soon.
Blass also reveals that the Galaxy S10 will come with a triple rear camera setup, which isn't surprising. The company introduced a triple-camera setup on the Galaxy A7 (2018) recently and we expected it to show up on a flagship device next year. Blass says the system will include a standard lens, wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens similar to the Galaxy A7. Of course, the sensors that Samsung will use will be different and more high-end compared to the Galaxy A7.
It should also be noted that Blass' information could be about the top-end Galaxy S10 model. Rumours say that Samsung will announce three models of the Galaxy S10 and that the entry-level model will come with some downgraded specs. Another tipster, Ben Geskin, tweeted earlier this week that the Galaxy S10 will come with dual cameras and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which runs opposite to what Blass said. We can only assume we are looking at two different models here, but things should get clearer in the weeks to come.
