The purported middleman in the AgustaWestland chopper scandal, Christian Michel alleged in a Delhi court on Tuesday that ex-CBI special director Rakesh Asthana met him in Dubai and threatened to make his life hell if he did not agree to toe the line of the agency in its probe in the case.
Sometime back Rakesh Asthana met me in Dubai and threatened that my life would be made hell and that s what is going on. My next door inmate is gangster Chotta Rajan. I don t understand what crime I have committed to be put along with those who have killed several people, Michel said in the courtroom, according to a report in The Indian Express.
Christian Michel also told the court also he was put in a barrack of Tihar Jail with about 16-17 Kashmiri separatist leaders.
His statement was recorded on Tuesday before Special Judge Arvind Kumar allowed the Enforcement Directorate to quiz him inside Delhi s Tihar Jail for two days starting Wednesday.
During the cross-questioning, Michel s lawyer will be allowed limited access and a jail official will be present as well for 30 minutes in the morning as well as in evening, the court went on.
The court observed the submission by Christian Michel contending mental torture inside the jail and ordered the Tihar jail authorities to bring the CCTV footage and other reports by March 14 due to which the alleged middleman in AgustaWestland chopper scam case was moved to a high-security ward.
On March 11, the jail authorities were asked to submit their response on the agency s plea and a production warrant was issued for Tuesday for the accused whose lawyer claimed mental torture inside the jail.
On December 22 2018, Christian Michel was extradited from Dubai and arrested by Enforcement Directorate.
