Days after opening her Twitter account, Congress general secretary for eastern Uttar Pradesh posted her first tweet today. Taking to Twitter, Priyanka Gandhi spoke of her visit in Sabarmati earlier in the day.

In the simple dignity of Sabarmati, the truth lives on , her tweet read. In another tweet, quoting Mahama Gandhi, she wrote, I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.

Speaking at a rally earlier in Gandhinagar, the Congress general-secretary hit out at the BJP-led centre asking where are the jobs. “Our institutions are being destroyed. Wherever you see, hatred is being spread,” she said at the rally near Adalaj village of Gandhinagar district.

Do not get distracted with unwanted issues. You should realise what benefits you, how you will get employment, how women can be safe. I appeal to you to take your decision with caution, she went on to add without naming PM Modi.

“I am saddened by what is happening in our country today. I want you all to be more aware. That is the best sign of patriotism. Your vote is your weapon. You are not supposed to harm someone with that weapon. But it will make you stronger,” Priyanka said.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi she asked what happened to the promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of every citizen of the country. “The people who made tall claims in 2014, ask them about the Rs 15 lakh that was to be deposited into your account. Ask them about the promises they made about women security and about employment,” the agency quoted as saying further.

Since joining politics formally, Priyanka Gandhi has held a number of meetings with Congress workers. Before addressing the gathering today, her public presence was limited to a roadshow in Lucknow along with Rahul Gandhi last month.
