Opinion | Tale of Two Indias – Where Kumbh is Allowed, Jamaat Event Maligned

·1-min read

In this episode of 'Yeh Jo India Hai Na…', The Quint's Rohit Khanna asks, 'yahan Kumbh Mele ko coronavirus se special protection mili hui hai kya?!' 1 crore Indians defying COVID protocols willfully – putting themselves, their families and friends in danger of contracting the virus. 35 Lakh people took part in the Kumbh Mela Shahi Snan on 12th April. Why did we target 3,500 members of the Tablighi Jamaat a year ago? Why did we jail them for months and why were they abused by government-aligned media? Why did the government that allowed 35 lakh people to attend Kumbh in a day, say in court saying that only 20 Muslims should be allowed to pray at the Nizamuddin Dargah at any one time? If we have to tackle the COVID-19 Second Surge, if we truly want to save lives and our economy, we can’t cite faith and give events like the Kumbh Mela, a free pass.
