OnePlus TV smart remote controller spotted online, hints at launch within next few months
Not long ago, OnePlus announced that it was working on a new smart TV which would break cover sometime in 2020. At the time, OnePlus didn't reveal much about the features of the TV but hinted that it would be a product that hasn't been in the smart TV space before. While not much is known about the OnePlus TV, a leaked document on the web now suggests that OnePlus might be launching the TV within the next few months as a Bluetooth remote controller has just been spotted on Bluetooth SIG certification website.
The product that's up for registration at the Bluetooth SIG certification carries a codename of RC-001A. This certification doesn't reveal much about the product's feature apart from the version of Bluetooth it's using, which is Bluetooth 4.2. This isn't surprising considering that all smart TVs these days have a remote controller with Bluetooth connectivity. All Android TVs have Bluetooth connected remote controllers as standard these days.
While we may have learnt nothing about the features of the TV, it is certain that OnePlus might be launching this TV very soon. A few weeks ago, tipster Ishaan Agarwal stated that OnePlus will be launching the TV sooner that what the company had originally stated. It seems that we could be seeing the OnePlus TV within the next few months. There are chances that OnePlus could be announcing the OnePlus 7T series along with the TV during its November launch.
Earlier, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said that the remote controller for TVs is outdated and the company could make use of AI to deliver more information. This suggests that OnePlus could use a display on the controller for delivering additional information about TV channels or shows.
Apart from this, speculations suggest that OnePlus could be going for a smaller 40-inch 4K LCD panel to compete against the likes of Xiaomi's Mi TV 4 series. Instead of going for aggressive pricing, OnePlus could offer a more premium experience by developing a more solid user experience using AI. OnePlus said that it wants the TV to act as the hub of a smart home ecosystem and there are chances that users could control external devices through the TV.
