OnePlus 6 launch live: Next OnePlus phone launched at price of $529 along with $69 Bullets Wireless earphones
OnePlus is minutes away from launching its next-generation OnePlus 6 phone at an event in London. The launch event starts precisely at 9.30PM IST and India Today Tech will be present at ground zero reporting on all the major announcements that OnePlus has in store for us. A lot about the OnePlus 6 has already been teased by OnePlus itself, and a lot more has leaked via the World Wide Web. OnePlus co-founder and CEO Carl Pei, will however give the full picture on Wednesday, formally launching the OnePlus 6 for global markets including India.
The India Today Tech team is at the event, and is going to bring you the live updates as Carl Pei reveals the phone. The updates appear after the break here. The most recent updates will be on top.
Update: "We hope you will love OnePlus 6," says Pei. And that is a wrap. For India price of the phone, wait for the India launch that is happening tomorrow.
Update: OnePlus 6 goes on sale from May 22. The Silk White variant will be available from June 5. The OnePlus 6 start at $529, Euros 519 and Pound 469. For now no details about India price. That will be announced tomorrow during the India launch. Also, OnePlus 6 will be available in India from Chroma.
Update: OnePlus 6 comes with improved camera, says Pei. The OnePlus 6 main camera has 16-megapixel image sensor. It also comes with a larger image sensor, made by Sony. This is IMX 519, which is 19 per cent bigger than the sensor in the OnePlus 5T. It helps in clicking low-light photos. The dual-camera module, as noted from the OnePlus 6 images, has been retained. And Pei says that the Portrait mode is now faster and comes with a few new effect. It also comes with Slow-Mo mode of 480FPS. And there is a new software update coming that will add Portrait Mode to the front camera of the OnePlus 6.
OnePlus 6 comes with an inbuilt video editor. "So look forward to see what users create with the OnePlus 6 camera," says Pei.
Update: To ensure that OnePlus phones work as intended, the company tests them thoroughly. So thoroughly, says Pei, that the tests they started on the OnePlus 3 haven't stopped yet. For 700 days the tests are running on that phone, says Pei.
Update: Speed is apparently very important to OnePlus. Pei is now talking about how his company wants to create phones that should not slow down with use. Dash Charging now gives "a day's power in half an hour". It's also fast because of the good core hardware. As noted earlier, the phone comes with top class Snapdragon 845 processor. It also comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage and hardware that supports network speed of 1gbps. Also, OnePlus 6 will get fast updates and it is already part of the Android P beta software.
Update: OnePlus 6 comes in three finishes. Mirror Black, which is shiny. There is Silk White and the Midnight Black too. Midnight Black has a matte finish. Getting this finish was a challenge, says Pei. Silk White will not be available at the launch, but will come to market in three weeks, says Pei. he talks about how each finish reflect the light in a different way. "We believe this is our boldest design work ever," says Pei.
Update: OnePlus 6 comes with a new design that uses glass back. Each glass sheet goes through 40 steps to achieve the kind of perfection that OnePlus wants. "Crafted without compromise" says OnePlus. All of this is nice but also keep in mind that there are some other phones too that come with all metal and glass design. And they too look quote nice, although the build quality of the OnePlus 6 looks fantastic.
Update: "With OnePlus 6, we focussed on speed. This is the fastest OnePlus phone ever," says Pei. It comes with Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Also comes with the largest screen in a OnePlus phone ever. 6.28 inches to be precise.
Update: OnePlus 6 launched. Pei says that they are also launching the wireless earphones but fear not, the OnePlus 6 still comes with a headphone jack. Loud cheers at the event venue. People apparently love their headphone jack.
Update: The Bullets Wireless will cost $69, Euros 69 and Pound 69. Available from June 5. That is a ridiculously good price. For now no details of the India price.
Update: Pei is showing a blind test video in which audiophiles are talking about the sound coming from the Bullets Wireless earphones. "Compliment the chef," one of the listeners says.
Update: Wow! Bullets Wireless supports Dash Charging. Charge them for 10 minutes and get 5 hours of listening time. "Pretty amazing right," says Pei. The Bullets Wireless comes with Energy Tube (OnePlus marketing name for some unique design of the earphones) that helps these earphones deliver great sound quality, according to Pei.
Update: OnePlus is focussed on only creating quality products. "Now let's look forward and talk to about the first product of the day," he says. Okay, it's not the phone. OnePlus is today launching wireless earphones. All aluminium buds. 9.2mm drivers. It's called OnePlus Bullets Wireless. The Google Assistant is supported.
Update: In an Apple-like manner, Pei starts by talking about his company's success in 2017. OnePlus 5 at a time sold at the rate 7000 units per minute. In India, OnePlus 5 was the best selling phone on Amazon India until it was replaced by OnePlus 5T, he says.
Update: Carl Pei is on the stage. "What's up London?" OnePlus is launching not one but two new products today, he says.
Update: OnePlus believes that the OnePlus 5 was its most complete phone. At least Carl Pei, who is going to do the keynote, believes so. Let's hope OnePlus 6 is similar, especially now when the competitors have started to take note of OnePlus and its success. Just yesterday, Huawei launched the Honor 10.
Update: Okay, "everybody ensure your phones are on silent". The announcement has been made so event is about to start. Let's see what is there in the OnePlus 6.
Update: Another 10 minutes to go. In its pre-roll video, OnePlus is also highlighting how it always talks to its fans. For example, it holds OnePlus Open ear forums across the world where it meets the OnePlus users.
Update: This is an interesting video that OnePlus is showing at the OnePlus 6 launch event in London. It talks of how going forward, the big aim for OnePlus is to be a consistent performer. and Carl Pei is talking again and again about how "we got cocky" with the OnePlus 2 and that was not nice. So basically the idea seems to be that remind yourself of your mistakes again and again so you don't repeat them.
Update: Also, while you wait for the OnePlus 6 launch, check out everything we know about the phone, top features that are expected in it, the India plan for the OnePlus 6, when it launches in India, and at what price. All the details here...
Update: Ahead of the launch, OnePlus is showing a pre-recorded video in which the company co-founder Carl Pei is talking about OnePlus journey so far. There have been glorious moments so far, and some slip ups to. Basically Carl is talking about the same things he said in November during the OnePlus 5T launch, including how the company made mistakes with the OnePlus 2.
Update: It's full house for the OnePlus here at its London even where the company is going to launch the OnePlus 6.
Update: Rumours and details shared by OnePlus reveal that the OnePlus 6 will have an all-glass and metal design with a notch up-front. It will be powered by Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 845 processor and at least one of its variant will ship with 256GB storage. The OnePlus 6, more importantly, will be focusing a great deal on cameras, and an upgrade to OnePlus' Dash Charging may also be on the cards.
