OnePlus is set to launch an upgraded version of its current-generation flagship OnePlus 5, aka the OnePlus 5T, at an event in New York City on November 16. Well ahead of its high-profile unveiling, the OnePlus 5T , has leaked in all its glory courtesy an early unboxing photo gallery -- much to the dismay of OnePlus -- that leaves literally nothing to the imagination. Most importantly, the unboxing photo gallery, reveals that the OnePlus 5T will indeed ship with an Oppo R11s-like design scheme, which means much like the Oppo phone, the OnePlus 5T will also have a near edge-to-edge bezel-less screen with an unusual aspect ratio of 18:9 instead of the OnePlus 5's more regular 16:9.
As is understandable in such cases, the OnePlus 5T will ship with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as opposed to the front-mounted seating in the OnePlus 5. As a result of such a placement, the front of the OnePlus 5T, will be all screen and almost no bezels. The OnePlus 5T -- as per the documentation shared in the leak -- will have a 6-inch AMOLED 1080p (full-HD+) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top, but because the phone would be longer (and not wider) it would occupy a smaller footprint when in the hands. In fact, the unboxing photo gallery, also shows the OnePlus 5T placed right next to the OnePlus 5 showing that the new phone would be nearly as big as its predecessor. The OnePlus 5, for your reference, is a 5.5-inch phone. The unboxing photo gallery has since been taken down.
OnePlus 5T specs
As for the rest of the hardware, the OnePlus 5T -- as per the leaked documentation -- will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and ship with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage (non-expandable). The phone is seen running Android 7.1.1 Nougat (based Oxygen OS) which is a little disappointing since Oreo is already out and a number of recently launched phones out there like the Sony Xperia XZ1 and the HTC U11+ ship with Android 8.0 out-of-the-box.
Elsewhere, the OnePlus 5T will come with a 3,300mAh battery with support for the company's Dash charging technology . The dual-SIM phone will support 4G LTE and Bluetooth 5.0. OnePlus seems to have reworked on the dual cameras bit this time round, although the setup is still pretty much the same, meaning it will still come with a 16MP wide-angle+20MP tele-photo system with a dual LED flash and support for 4K recording. On the front, the OnePlus 5T will come with a 16MP camera.
OnePlus 5 specs
Clearly, the most striking highlight of the OnePlus 5T would be its design. As opposed to its predecessor, the OnePlus 5T would have a tweaked near bezel-less design, a larger display and possibly upgraded dual cameras. Rest of the specifics -- much like it was in the case of the OnePlus 3T/OnePlus 3 -- would be largely the same.
Let's take a quick look at the OnePlus 5 specs for some comparison. The OnePlus 5 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clubbed with up to 8 gigs of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage, Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based OxygenOS and a 3,300mAh battery powering the whole thing.
The dual camera system in the OnePlus 5 features "a tailor-made 16-megapixel camera, supported by a 20-megapixel telephoto camera. While the 16-megapixel camera -- Sony IMX 398 -- features a large f/1.7 aperture, the secondary 20-megapixel camera features an f/2.6 aperture. The dual camera system on-board the OnePlus 5 is capable of shooting photos with shallow depth of field, or bokeh effect through a specialized portrait mode. There's also a dedicated Pro Mode for pro users. The system is also capable of recording 4K videos and shooting in RAW file format. Sadly, the OnePlus 5's rear camera system isn't assisted with Optical Image Stabilisation. On the front, the OnePlus 5 comes with a 16-megapixel camera.
The OnePlus 5 starts at Rs 32,999 for the base 6GB RAM and 64GB storage version and goes all the way to Rs 37,999 for the top-end 8GB RAM and 128GB storage version.
