Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria heaped praises on MS Dhoni for brushing his attitude and mentality on the current Indian team. MS Dhoni retired in August 2020 as one of the successful captains of the Indian side in recent times. Danish Kaneria was mighty impressed by Deepak Chahar’s innings in the second ODI in Colombo.
Deepak Chahar stole the match from Sri Lanka’s pockets by finishing unbeaten at 69 when India were struggling at 193-7, chasing 276. The right-arm seamer took some calculated risks on his way to one of the most memorable innings played by an Indian cricketer in recent times. He also snared two wickets before that, recovering well after going expensive initially.
Danish Kaneria believes the legacy MS Dhoni build with CSK and India would remain forever as Ravichandran Ashwin and Deepak Chahar have adapted to the requirements in recent times. The 40-year old stated that the duo has inherited the ability to take the game deep from MS Dhoni.
“The legacy that MS Dhoni will leave for India, as well as CSK, will remain for a long time. The way Ravichandran Ashwin has performed in Australia, the way Deepak Chahar has performed of late, one understands that they have adapted to the requirements of the team and are following it. How to take a game deep, how to win a game when the team seems to be down and out, it is all Dhoni’s legacy,” Kaneria told in his Youtube channel.
A team becomes big when it respects and follows the senior’s footmarks: Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria opined that Pakistan cricketers have not displayed consistency, opining that there is a vast difference between ours and Indian cricket’s tail. The former leggie believes that Pakistan’s past cricketers have created a legacy, but the present bunch has failed to carry it, unlike the Indian players, who have walked into their predecessors’ footmarks successfully.
“Pakistan are just not showing consistency in their performances. Look at India’s tail and look at our tail. Even our past cricketers have left a legacy but this team hasn’t adapted to it. Pakistan are playing cricket like cowards. A team becomes big when it respects and follows the senior’s footmarks. While India has done it, Pakistan unfortunately hasn’t,” he added.
