Watch: Morbius - Teaser Trailer
Headlined by Oscar winner Jared Leto in the role of Dr Michael Morbius, who accidentally transforms himself into a creature of the night, this one follows in the footsteps of Venom in that it's under the Sony banner as opposed to Marvel Studios.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven the Hunter project also falls in this Spider-Verse bracket.
Gibson, who plays FBI agent Simon Stroud in Morbius, spoke to ComicBook recently to discuss his experience of working on it:
"Doing this movie opposite Jared Leto, man, was nerve-wracking, exciting [and] inspiring. He's really, really interesting this guy to work with.
"[Director] Daniel Espinosa kept me nervous the whole time as well because he's a real alpha – very aggressive filmmaker and he's very honest. He'll tell you sometimes... things that you don't want to hear, about how to step your game up as an actor."
Teasing how "a lot of people are gonna be shocked" by what they witness on the big screen, Gibson was asked directly if it's set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and replied with a "yes".
However, Sony Pictures has since refuted Gibson's claim, issuing a statement to confirm that Morbius does not take place in the MCU and that it's part of Sony's Universe of Marvel characters (via Gamespot).
That clears that up, then.
Morbius is currently scheduled for release on January 28, 2022.
