It’s A Misconception That I’m Not A Good White-Ball Bowler: Umesh Yadav

Indian veteran paceman Umesh Yadav has not played white-ball cricket for India since February 2019. Umesh Yadav’s last limited-overs game was against Australia in which he failed to defend more than ten runs against Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson. Despite convictions that the 33-year old is not suited for the white-ball format, Yadav has challenged it.

While Umesh Yadav remains more than a regular fixture in India’s Test team, the Vidharba paceman has not been able to help his case for the national team’s limited-overs side. Umesh Yadav, who is currently gearing up for IPL 2021 and would turn out for the Delhi Capitals, had a forgettable outing last year for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He played only two matches and went wicketless, maintaining an economy rate of 11.86.

The IPL 2021 auction, which became a hub for the fast bowlers, did not prove so for Umesh Yadav. While the likes of Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, and Kyle Jamieson became millionaires, the 33-year old fetched only INR 1 crores as Delhi Capitals secured his services. In 121 IPL matches, he has taken 119 scalps at 29.90 alongside a couple of four-wicket hauls.

Umesh Yadav said that the biggest misconception is that people think he is not good in white-ball cricket. Umesh underlined that having started his IPL career with Delhi, he knows the likes of Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, and Rishabh Pant quite well. Thus, the veteran feels comfortable with the camp and does not feel like he is going to join a new team.

“People think I’m not a good white-ball bowler. I started my IPL career with the Delhi team, so the Delhi franchise feels like home to me. I know a lot of players in the team. I have been playing with the likes of Ishant Sharma, Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant for quite some time. So, it doesn’t feel like I am joining a new team. I am already feeling very comfortable in the Delhi Capitals camp,” Yadav told ESPN Cricinfo.
