MG Hector production to begin on April 29; to challenge Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500
There is good news for Indian customers eagerly waiting for the launch of MG Hector. While we already know that MG (Morris Garages) Motor India will introduce Hector SUV in the country in June 2019, the company will commence the vehicle's production at its manufacturing facility in Halol in Gujarat from April 29.
MG Motor India had earlier announced that Hector's production would start during the second quarter of 2019 and the fact that it would actually begin from April 29 is in line with the company's announcement. Also, the company is aiming at over 75 per cent localisation level.
MG Hector has been in the news for quite some time now. Be it the announcement that Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch will be the brand ambassador of MG Motor India or the company unveiling the connectivity features of MG Hector SUV, every aspect has garnered a lot of attention.
MG Hector will have split headlamps with DRLs. The front fascia will have an imposing grille, which will sport MG badge in the centre. The rear will have LED taillamps, skid plate and spoiler. Also, it will feature multi-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, roof rails and shark fin antenna. We are expecting MG Hector to come with a panoramic sunroof as well.
Inside the cabin, we are expecting the upcoming Hector SUV to feature premium seat upholstery. Also, the SUV will get MG Motor's iSMART next-generation connectivity technology. There will be a 10.4-inch head unit, which will house the 'brain' of the iSMART. There will be an embedded M2M sim to ensure that MG Hector will remain connected. The screen of the head unit has been designed with a vertical interface to enable the driver to control all the systems with a touch or voice command. The head unit will have pre-loaded entertainment content as well.
So far as engine options are concerned, we are expecting 2019 MG Hector to get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre Multijet turbo diesel engine. The diesel motor will be the one available with Jeep Compass and it makes 173 PS and 350 Nm of torque. There will be a standard 6-speed manual gearbox for both petrol and diesel mills. The petrol engine might get an option for a DCT.
MG Hector might be priced between Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500.
