MG Hector bookings temporarily closed owing to high initial demand
MG Hector been receiving an overwhelming response ever since it was launched in India on June 27. With its price ranging between Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 16.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the new SUV has taken the segment by storm and giving a tough competition to its rivals like Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta. However, MG (Morris Garages) Motor has "temporarily" closed the bookings of Hector owing to an inability to cater to a high initial demand.
MG Hector bookings had started on June 4 in India and by the time of its launch, the company had received more than 10,000 bookings. The figure has crossed 21,000 now. While the deliveries of Hector have already started, the company has said that the date of re-opening the bookings will be announced soon.
"Our first product, MG Hector, has received an overwhelming response and we are unable to cater to such high initial demand. We are, therefore, closing bookings temporarily as this will help ensure timely and orderly deliveries for our customers who have shown tremendous confidence in MG. We are also working with our component suppliers to ramp up production in a gradual manner without any compromise on quality," MG Motor India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said.
While MG Hector has been sold out for 2019, the carmaker plans to cater to the increasing demand by raising the production of the SUV to 3,000 units per month by October 2019 at its Halol manufacturing facility. The SUV is available in Style, Super, Smart and Sharp variants and Aurora Silver, Candy White, Starry Black, Burgundy Red and Coloured Glaze Red colour schemes. According to MG Motor India, the Smart and Sharp variants of Hector have registered the highest demand. Besides, the petrol trims have notched up over 50 per cent reservations.
MG Hector boasts of an impressive design having features like bold front grille with surrounding chrome accent, split LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, LED tail lamps, LED fog lamps, dual-tone machined alloys, shark fin antenna, floating light turn indicators and heated ORVM. Inside the cabin of Hector, one will come across features like 7-inch coloured multi-information display, 10.4-inch HD touchscreen audio video navigation system, 4-way power adjustable co-driver seat, 2nd-row seat recline, fatigue reminder setting, powered tailgate opening and dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The company claims that Hector is India's first internet car with iSMART technology, that has more than 50 connected features.
Powering MG Hector is a 1.5-litre turbocharged intercooled petrol engine that produces 143 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The mill is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox with an option for a 6-speed DCT. The petrol motor also gets a 48V hybrid variant that has 12 per cent better fuel efficiency and emits 11 per cent less CO2. However, the hybrid option only gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is also a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel powertrain that churns out 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
MG Hector has a length and width of 4,655 mm and 1,835 mm, respectively. Its height is 1,760 mm, while the wheelbase measures 2,750 mm. It has a very large 587-litre boot.
