Benchmark indices continued to gain for third consecutive session with BSE Sensex closing at 39,215.64 and the Nifty50 rising 24.90 points to end at 11,687.50.
The Nifty was 11,700 level during the intra-day trade, driven by banks, FMCG and IT stocks.
During the morning trade, the 30-share index was trading 4.40 points, or 0.01 percent, lower at 39,126.64, while the broader Nifty inched 2.20 points, or 0.02 percent, higher to 11,664.80.
Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Kotak Bank, TechM, Asian Paints, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance and Yes Bank, rising up to 1.32 percent.
Meanwhile, the rupee on Wednesday opened on a cautious note and fell 9 paise to 68.80 against the US dollar amid rising crude oil prices and foreign fund outflows.
