Indian middle-order batsman and Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer will miss the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League due to injury.

The talented middle-order batsman suffered subluxated his left shoulder while fielding during the first One-day International of the recently-concluded three-match series against England.

Iyer took no further part in the remainder of the series and with his shoulder requiring surgery, the right-handed batsman was eventually ruled out of the 14th season of the cash-rich IPL.

Shreyas Iyer, on Thursday, underwent a successful injury on his left shoulder, post which the 26-year-old posted a picture of himself on the hospital bed to convey the news to his well-wishers.

The Mumbai cricketer also thanked his fans and well-wishers for their constant support, assuring them he will be back on the field in ‘no time’.

“Surgery was a success and with lion-hearted determination, I’ll be back in no time. Thank you for your wishes,” he wrote on Twitter

In Shreyas Iyer’s absence, swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will lead the Delhi Capitals. The 2020 runners-up will, however, miss Iyer’s presence at the No.3 spot.

Iyer has played the role of an anchor to brilliant effect for the Delhi Capitals. The 26-year-old has accumulated in excess of 400 runs in the last three seasons and the 13th edition of the IPL was probably his zenith as a batsman.

In 17 games, Shreyas Iyer smashed 519 runs at an average of 34.60 and a strike rate of 123.27 with three 50-plus scores. In his absence, the likes of Steve Smith or Ajinkya Rahane will take up the role and the Capitals will hope that they will come up with similar performances as Iyer.
