LG to launch dual screen LG G8X at IFA 2019

IFA 2019 is coming. Ahead of Europe's biggest tech show LG Electronics has teased a second video indicating that it is planning to launch a dual screen smartphone at the event in Berlin next month. Last week the company released a video showing a cartoon character travelling from one screen to a destination on the other screen before the screen closes to reveal a third display that shows the date and time. Now, the Korean electronics giant has revealed another video which shows the hand of a clock going from zero degrees to 180 degrees indicating the launch of a dual screen smartphone at IFA 2019.

The video then shows the message - "Dual, the better" - before the smartphone closes and reveals the same screen with date and time that it did in case of the first video that the company shared last week.

Initial reports indicated that the dual screen smartphone in question was the LG G8 ThinQ successor, the LG G8X. Reports also inidicated that LG could launch a second smartphone - possibly the LG V60 ThinQ - which would succeed the original dual screen smartphone by the company - the LG V50 ThinQ - that was launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. Now, new reports indicate that the LG G8X and the LG V60 ThinQ or the LG V50S (as the reports indicate the phone would be called) are not two separate smartphones. Instead, the company is planning to launch its dual screen smartphone as the LG V50S ThinQ in Korea and as the LG G8X in the international markets. This is being done owing to the popularity of the G-series in the international markets.

LG uses its G-series moniker for 4G LTE smartphones and V-series moniker of 5G smartphones. According to a report by Korea based YonHap News Agency, the LG G8X that will be launched in the international markets will come with 4G LTE connectivity, while the version that will be launched in Korea, that is the LG V50S ThinQ, will feature 5G connectivity.

The phone will come with a 6.4-inch crystal sound OLED display and a droplet notch. It would be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and it will come with a free-stop hinge that will enhance usability by allowing the smartphone to be fixed at any angle.
