At a time when the Indian automobile industry is experiencing a severe slowdown with declining sales and job losses, there is one carmaker that is creating a lot of buzz for all the good reasons and it is none other than Kia Motors. The South Korean automobile major is all set to launch its maiden product, Seltos, in India on August 22. The mass production of the upcoming compact SUV has commenced at the company's manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Kia Seltos bookings started in the country on July 16 for a token amount of Rs 25,000 and within three weeks 23,311 units were booked. Now, there is a piece of good news for those who are wondering when their vehicle will be delivered.
Kia Seltos deliveries will start on August 22, the day the compact SUV is launched in India. The first production version of Seltos was rolled out on August 8. Expectations are that Kia Seltos price in India will range between Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival against Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector.
There will be three BS-VI compliant engines available with Kia Seltos. A 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol will make 140 PS and 242 Nm of torque. A 1.5-litre petrol mill will churn out 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque. A 1.5-litre VGT diesel will produce 115 PS and 250 Nm of torque. There will be a standard 6-speed manual gearbox offered with the three motors. Automatic options include 7-speed DCT with 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol, IVT with 1.5-litre petrol and 6-speed AT with 1.5-litre VGT diesel. Depending on the engine-transmission combination, the fuel efficiency figures will range between 16 kmpl and 21 kmpl.
In his First Drive Review of Kia Seltos, Auto Today Editor Yogendra Pratap said, "Overall, Seltos has equipment levels of vehicles not one but many segments higher and has a number of unique firsts that are not even found in India. An air-purifier integrated into the car or cameras on rear view mirrors used for turning visibility or lane-change - definitely segment and at times industry firsts. This is what I would like my car to be but the big question is at what price?"
Kia Seltos will be available in Tech Line and GT Line trims with further subdivisions. It will have eight monotone and five dual-tone colour options. The upcoming Seltos will be 4,315 mm long. The height will be 1,800 mm. The width and wheelbase will measure 1,620 mm and 2,610 mm, respectively. The boot will have a capacity of 433 litres.
So far as features are concerned, Kia Seltos will have tiger-nose front grille, LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, LED taillights and dual exhaust pipes. The cabin gets features like 10.25-inch touchscreen AVN system with an 8-speaker Bose sound system, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, 8-inch HUD (Heads Up Display), blind-spot view monitor, cruise control, push-button start/stop and eco coating. It will also have connectivity technology in the form of the UVO Connect system, with 37 smart features.
