Here we spill the beans on the new Kia Seltos, including its expected price, variants, specifications and and all the relevant information you may want.
The car looks better in the flesh. It is an edgy and a typical Kia that stays true to the concept revealed at the Auto Expo. We like the Tiger-nose grille, but it’s the headlamps along with the neat detailing that separate it from the herd. It is not massive in size at 4.3m, but has the correct stance and proportions. There are 8 colour options and 5 dual tone options. The top-end GT line looks the best with bigger 17-inch wheels and red brake calipers and accents.
There are two trims on offer — Tech line and GT line. The GT line gets an all black cabin but is also lined up with tasty red accents all over. There is of of course dual-tone also. What stands out is the quality plus the overall fit/finish. The design is sporty and edgy with a -inch instrument cluster and with a big touch screen. The Seltos feelseven more spacious that a Creta, with a wider rear seat but about the same headroom.
There is a features war going on and Kia has also stepped up the game. There are all-LED lamps, 10.25-inch HD touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8.0 heads up display, ambient mood lighting, leatherette seats (Sports seats in GT Line), 2-step reclining rear seats, ventilated front seats, driver’s power seat, a 400-watt 8 speaker Bose audio with dynamic speed compensation and sound mood lights, electric parking brake, Air purifier. You also get front and rear Parking Sensors, 6 airbags, Hill-start Assist Control and more.
There is also the UVO (Your Voice) Connect system with 37 features that will come with 3 years of free subscription. The UVO connect feature is broadly covered under Navigation, Safety & Security, Vehicle Management, Remote Control and Convenience. Thus you get stuff like live car tracking, location sharing, live traffic, find my car, send destination, SOS-Emergency assistance, Geo fence, TimeFence, Speed, Valet, remote control functions and more. Phew!
The engines on offer
There are three engine options with two petrol and one diesel. All are BSVI compliant. The 1.5 petrol is the base one with 115 bhp and 140Nm with a CVT auto plus a 6-speed manual. Then the top-end is the 1.4 turbo petrol with 140 bhp and 242 Nm with the gearbox being a 7-speed dual clutch auto. There is also a 1.5l diesel with 115 bhp and 250Nm with a 6-speed torque converter auto plus a 6-speed manual on offer.
Plus the Seltos has 3 driving modes – Sports, Normal and Eco. These not only alter the response from the engine, but also change the steering wheel feel and weight. The vehicle also sports 3 traction modes – Mud, Snow/Wet and Sand.
Bookings are open with an amount of Rs 25k while more than 6,000 bookings are in the bag already- within a day! There are five variants namely E, K, K+, X and X+. Kia currently has 265 touch points across 160 cities.
Kia will be pricing it aggressively thus expect a price range between Rs 10-17 lakh. Looking at the features and the quality of the overall product, the car appears to be excellent value. This could be a game-changer for the Indian car market.
