Keeping Aadhar Data Secured

The Aadhaar Card comes with several safety features. Whenever you give your Aadhaar detail to any institution, then for authentication, you will get an OTP (One Time Password) on your registered mobile number. The OTP remains valid for 30 minutes and once used it cannot be reused. You should be careful not to share your OTPs with anyone. When you use your finger to authenticate a transaction at a shop through your Aadhaar Card, then the POS (Point Of Sale) can be compromised by hackers and your fingerprint data can also be hacked. Recently, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority Of India) has enhanced the Aadhaar safety by granting an option to lock your biometric details. If you lock your Aadhaar details, then, no one can access it unless you unlock it. To lock or unlock your Aadhaar detail, you can log on to UIDAI’s website and login to your personal Aadhaar section. You will receive the OTP on your registered mobile number, which can be used to lock or unlock the Aadhaar Card by clicking on the appropriate tab. Once you unlock your Aadhaar, it will stay accessible only for 20 minutes and will get locked automatically. In the locked mode nobody will have access to your Aadhaar details and your biometric information will remain highly secure. Despite security features available in Aadhaar, if you are not watchful, then your Aadhaar is at a risk. You must use the locking and unlocking facility to keep you Aadhaar data secured. UIDAI has its own data protection points under the Aadhaar Act. As per media reports, the Government of India has decided to bring in strong laws for the data protection in the near future, till then, be careful with the way you use the Aadhaar card.
