JioPhone is now available on Amazon India. The 4G feature phone is seen listed on the e-commerce site by a third party reseller called the Gadget geek business solution at much higher price tag of Rs 1,745 than the original cost. This is a little strange, as originally, to buy a JioPhone customer need to pay a base amount of Rs 1500 which is refundable after 3 years, only if you return the JioPhone back to the company. However, India Today Tech has learned that the listing in an unofficial one and Jio isn't aware of it. So, you may buy the JioPhone from Amazon store at your own risk, instead we would suggest, don't fall for it. Meanwhile, JioPhone is now available at your nearest offline store.
Interestingly, not just one but two sellers have listed India ka smartphone aka JioPhone on Amazon India store. One is by a seller called Gadget geek business solution, while the second one is by my e-world. It seems, both the retailers are selling the 4G phone unofficially, hence, if you opt to book the phone from them, you may do that at your own risk and this one isn't an official one by Jio. Moreover, buying the JioPhone from these sellers doesn't make sense because you may have to pay a lot more than the original price.
Gadget geek business solution is selling the JioPhone at Rs 1745, while my e-world is selling the device at an even higher price of Rs 1,922. To recall, originally JioPhone is available at an effective price of Rs "zero". However, at the time for purchasing the product -- customers need to pay a sum of Rs 1500, which will be refundable after 3 years. To get the refundable amount, the customer needs to return back the JioPhone (undamaged) to the company.
However, if you still wish to get the JioPhone from one of the two sellers listed on Amazon, you may, but to activate the device, you will still need to visit the nearest retail store. Note: it seems some customers have actually purchased the phone from these unauthorized sellers and have received the product in good condition. But then, you still shouldn't fall for the offer, we would suggest.
Meanwhile, if you are interested to get a JioPhone for yourself, it is worth noting that India ka smartphone is now available at offline stores. And you may better head over the nearest stores rather than getting it from an unauthorized seller on Amazon. This means, you need not, any longer wait for the online booking to start on the company website. Also, neither do you have to register your interest or wait for days (or months) to get the delivery.
India Today Tech has learned that to buy a JioPhone, you can go to the nearest offline store, provide you Aadhaar details and you are good to go. However, to buy the phone from offline stores, you will need to pay an amount of Rs 1650 at first. At Rs 1650, you will get the JioPhone, a new Jio SIM card and Rs 153 recharge. Out of Rs 1650, Rs 1500 will be refunded back to you on returning the JioPhone (undamaged) to the company after 3 years.
However, if you already have a Jio SIM, and don't wish to get a new one, note that there's no option but to get the new SIM. You'll have to pay for the SIM anyway, even if you already have a Jio number. Meanwhile, the scenario isn't the same if you buy the phone from online. But, Jio, as of now, hasn't started the online booking as the company website is still asking customers to register their interest.
