Jeep India
has announced a massive price cut for the Compass petrol, in the wake of more than 50 per cent decline in sales. Initially launched at a starting price of Rs 14.95 lakh ex-showroom, the petrol variant of the Jeep Compass is now offered with a discount of up to Rs 1.07 lakh.

CarDekho shares that the five-seater SUV has had an overwhelming response on the market, but sales went down by a good margin in December 2018; 58 per cent to be precise. The stiff competition offered by its rivals such as the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV 500 is the main reason for this sales drop.

Even the upcoming Tata Harrier might have posed a threat to the Compass's market, since the anticipation for it is quite high. The low sales figures have affected the American-origin brand in India big time as the Compass is the most affordable product they have in their portfolio. Other Jeep products such as the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT are priced much higher.

Coming back to the sales figures, the company sold only 1150 units in December 2018 while 2750 units were sold in December 2017. However, the drop in sales is just one per cent when compared to November 2018. This hints to a downward trend that has happened throughout the year.

The Jeep Compass's petrol avatar is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which makes 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic. No AWD option is available in the petrol format.

On the other hand, the 2.0-litre diesel engine produces 171bhp and 350Nm of torque. It comes mated only to a six-speed manual transmission. The Jeep Compass's diesel variant is available with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive choices.

The Compass is loaded with enough and more on the inside. It is often considered as a value-for-money product even while its competitors are relatively priced lower. Still, Jeep India had to come up with a discount to boost its sales.

Thoughts On The Discount Offers For The Jeep Compass Petrol

Petrol SUVs have a niche market in India and manufacturers launch such products already knowing this. For the same reason, brands expect low sales figures for petrol-powered SUVs. But in the case of the petrol Compass, the company couldn't even meet basic numbers.
