Jaipur lawyer spends Rs 6 lakh to register special number 0001 for his Maruti Alto

A Jaipur-based lawyer has spent a whopping Rs 6 lakh to register a special number for his Maruti Alto. The registration cost is double the price of his car.

Some people can go to extreme lengths in a bid to fulfill their desires. One such person is Jaipur-based Sanjay Bali.

A lawyer by profession in Rajasthan High Court, Bali has spent more than Rs 6 lakh just for a special registration number for his Maruti Alto. The amount turns out to be double the price of his car.

The special registration number, RJ45 CM 0001, was allocated to him in an auction held by Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Jaipur.

"I liked this series. So I thought if this number is within my reach then I will take it. So I got it. My family did not have any special wishes, it was only my desire. So I took part in the auction and I received this number. Four people were there (in the auction) and Rs 5,21,000 was the final bid," said Bali.

Talking about his Alto car, Bali told India Today, "In 1-2 years, I will buy a big car. But this number, it is my property now. The kind of traffic that is there in the city, it practically needs a small vehicle."

The auction and bid by Bali has now become a talking point in Jaipur because the man has spent almost double the price of the Alto car for a registration number. Bali managed to win the bid surpassing three other people, including the owner of a Mercedes car.

"This auction for RJ 45 CM series had this bidding for around Rs 5,21,000 and a DD of Rs 1,00,000 was for it. So we have got revenue of around Rs 6,21,000 and may be the highest bidding," RTO Jaipur, Rajendra Kumar Verma said.

He added, "The craze for such numbers is increasing by the day and many come to us to ask for such unique numbers. We get good revenue with them."
