Amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak leaving the 2021 edition of IPL at crossroads, Chennai Super Kings confirms that none of their contingents have tested positive for the disease. COVID-19 hit the lucrative T20 league on Monday as Kolkata Knight Riders’ couple of players tested positive, leading to their fixture against the Royal Challengers Bangalore being postponed. Nevertheless, Chennai Super Kings asserted that three staff members tested negative.
It emerged that Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan, bowling coach L Balaji and a lower rung staff member tested positive on Sunday; however, their reports returned negative on Monday. A top BCCI source declared or announced the same. Apart from KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, a few groundsmen of the Delhi stadium also tested positive for the virus.
Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, both 30, have been isolated, while the rest of their contingents have returned negatives as of now. IPL stated that the medical team would be in constant touch and are monitoring their condition, apart from resorting to a daily testing routine to identify any possible cases and treat them at their earliest.
“The Medical Team is in continuous touch with the duo and are monitoring their health. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have now moved towards a daily testing routine to identify any other possible cases and treat them at the earliest,” the official statement revealed.
Chennai Super Kings’ next match of IPL 2021 to go ahead as planned:
Despite three of CSK’s contingents returning COVID-19 positive earlier, BCCI announced that their next match on the 5th of April against the Rajasthan Royals in Delhi would go ahead as planned. The Super Kings are currently in the second spot on the points table, having accumulated ten points in seven games. They lost a high-scoring match to the Mumbai Indians in their previous fixture and would look to bounce back.
