iOS 13 beta hints that iPhone 11 may get a USB-C port

Apart from lightning port, reports also indicate that Apple could ditch 3D Touch based gestures in iPhone 11 to opt for haptic touch based gestures.

Apple's iPhone 11 has been a subject of rumours and leaks ever since the tech giant unveiled the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max last year. In the past, reports have indicated that Apple would bundle an 18W USB-C power adapter with its upcoming iPhone 11. And now a new report has hinted that Apple might ditch its lightning port for a USB Type-C port in its 2019 iPhones.

Notably, there have been no credible reports that indicate that Apple would take this giant leap. However, Apple releasing the beta version of its iOS 13 has opened a pandora box of features that keeps on giving small surprises every day. Apparently, a Twitter user from France observed an interesting new visual while plugging his iPhone to a Mac while restoring the phone. The icon in the image shared by Twitter user seems to be that of a USB-C cable than the lightning cable and iTunes icon that would appear in previous versions of iOS.

This indicates that Apple might be finally ready to ditch the lightning port for a USB-C port. However, these details should be taken with a pinch of salt as this could simply be Apple using more generic symbol to indicate that the iPhone needs to be connected to a MacBook. But then again, Apple is Apple.

What fuels this optimism is the Cupertino, California headquartered tech giant ditching the lightning port for a USB-C port in its iPad Pro. In addition to this, the iPadOS bringing support for expandable storage - via the USB-C port in the new iPad Pro and lightning port in older iPad models - seems to support the theory so far. However, we will have to wait for a confirmation from Apple to know about this feature.

Notably, a USB-C port is not the only feature that seems to be on the cards for iPhone 11. Last week, a report indicated that Apple could drop support for 3D Touch in iPhone 11. The System Experience section in the Apple's features page for iOS 13 indicates that iPhone users will be able to preview emails and weblinks pressing and holding to see a hint of the content. The long press based gestures - that are common in iPhone SE and iPhone XR - indicate that 3D Touch could be replaced by haptic touch based gestures in iPhone 11.
