Hyundai Venue to feature BSVI-compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine of Kia Seltos

Hyundai had launched Venue in India on May 21. The compact SUV has been one of the most successful introductions of the year with well over 50,000 bookings till date. Hyundai Venue has left behind its rivals like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Mahindra XUV300 in July 2019 sales. Now, several media reports are claiming that the BSIV-compliant 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine of Venue will soon be replaced the BSVI-compliant 1.5-litre VGT diesel mill of Kia Seltos.

Hyundai Venue is priced between Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 11.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It boasts of features like dark chrome front grille, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, projector fog lamps, LED tail lamps, roof rails, shark fin antenna and diamond-cut alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, one will come across features like three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, 20.32-cm touchscreen AVNT with HD display, wireless phone charger, air purifier, cruise control and electric sunroof. The compact SUV also gets the new-age BlueLink connectivity technology.

There are three powerful engine options available with Hyundai Venue. There is a new 1.0-litre Kappa T-GDI petrol engine that delivers 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an in-house developed automatic 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. The other petrol option is the 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT engine and it makes 83 PS and 115 Nm of torque. This mill comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Also, there is the 1.4-litre U2 CRDi diesel powertrain that churns out 90 PS and 220 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The recently-launched Kia Seltos is available with three BSVI-compliant engines. There is a 1.5-litre petrol motor making 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre VGT diesel mill churns out 115 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol powertrain delivers 140 PS and 242 Nm of torque. There is a standard 6-speed manual gearbox provided with the three engines. The automatic options include IVT in 1.5-litre petrol, 6-speed AT in 1.5-litre VGT diesel and 7-speed DCT in 1.4-litre Turbo GDI petrol. Kia Seltos is priced between Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The BSVI emission norms will come into force from April 1, 2020. Hyundai has already made it clear that it will continue to sell vehicles with diesel engines during the BSVI era.

In July 2019, Hyundai Venue topped the monthly sales chart for sub-4 metre SUVs with 9,585 units, followed by Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza at 5,302 units and Mahindra XUV300 at 4,464 units.
