The Hyundai Venue 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine has become a popular powertrain choice in the Indian market. The company has reported that three in every four Venue models sold in the Indian market is a turbo variant.
Tarun Garg, Director of Sales, Marketing & Service, Hyundai Motor India, told Autocar India that the company will introduce more turbo petrol variant of its model in the line-up. Hyundai is not targeting volume sales with the turbo-petrol variants, instead, it aims to cater to enthusiasts who are looking for a performance machine in the country.
The brand feels that it is their responsibility to improve its offerings and cater to every customer's requests. The younger generation buyers in the country are seeking a different kind of experience with a much powerful machine, as a result, the company is knee on selling its turbo-petrol engines in the Indian market.
According to the previous financial year's sales report, the Hyundai Venue registered 93,624 total units sold in the Indian market. Out of that 34,860 were diesel variants and 58,764 customers preferred petrol units. This means a total of 44,073 Hyundai Venue turbo-petrol were sold, which is more than the all diesel variants combined.
Apart from a powerful engine, the turbo-petrol has other advantages as well. The Hyundai Venue turbo-petrol engine is offered with two transmission options, either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT.
If you are an enthusiast there are possibilities that you will be okay with either of the transmission options. However, if the compact-SUV was to be used by your parents, they would like the comfort of an automatic transmission with paddle shifters making life easier for them. As a result, the turbo-petrol variant is a rear combination of performance offered with convenience.
Additionally, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine returns an ARAI-rated mileage of 18.1kmp/l and 18.0km/l when mated to a manual and automatic transmission, respectively. The Hyundai Venue petrol variants retail between Rs 6.7 lakh and Rs 11.5 lakh. Prices for the Venue turbo-petrol variant with manual and DCT transmission starts at Rs 8.46 lakh and 9.6 lakh, respectively. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Alongside the turbo-petrol engine, the Venue is also offered with other engine and transmission options. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine produces 82bhp and 115Nm of torque and comes mated to a standard five-speed gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel unit produces 100bhp and 240Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
