Hyundai has revealed the all-new Santro for the Indian market and the new small family car will be launched in the country on October 23, 2018. The new Hyundai Santro 2018 features an all-new design language and comes with segment-first features. The new Hyundai Santro retains the signature tall-boy design of the original Santro.

Design

The new Hyundai Santro 2018 features an all-new design. The front fascia of the new Santro features a cascading grille, swept back headlamps, fog lamps, black plastic cladding around the grille and fog lamps and a new bumper.

The side profile of the new Hyundai Santro features a kink on the beltline and creases around the wheel arches. The rear profile of the hatchback is reminiscent of the original Santro with the large windshield. The new Santro retains the tall-boy design which was one of the main highlights of the Santro.

The Hyundai Grand i10 also features a similar design as the new Santro except for the tall-boy stance and new front end. The front fascia of the Grand i10 also features a cascading grille, swept back headlamps, fog lamps and LED daytime running lights.

The side profile of the Hyundai Grand i10 gets black garnish on the doors, roof rails and alloy wheels. The rear end of the Grand i10 features roof-mounted spoiler with stop lamp, wraparound tail light cluster and black plastic cladding on the bumper with round reflectors on either side.

Features

The new Hyundai Santro 2018 comes loaded with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink and voice recognition. Other features include rear AC vents, steering-mounted audio controls and rear wiper. The top-spec model will also get electrically adjustable ORVMs with turn indicators and USB port.

The Hyundai Grand i10 also features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink, automatic climate control, engine start/stop button, smart key, MID, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, cooled glove box, steering-mounted controls and height adjustable driver seat.

Safety

The new Hyundai Santro 2018 will be equipped with standard safety features such as driver side airbag, ABS, EBD and rear parking sensors.

The Hyundai Grand i10 also gets standard safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS and EBD. The top-spec variant of the Grand i10 also gets safety features such as central locking, impact-sensing auto door lock, rear parking sensors with camera and day/night IRVM.

Engine, Specifications, Gearbox And Mileage

The all-new Hyundai Santro will draw power from a new 1.1-litre petrol engine that produces 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and for the first time, the Santro will also get an optional AMT gearbox. The new Hyundai Santro is expected to return a mileage of around 20.3km/l.

The Hyundai Grand i10 is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 82bhp and 113Nm of torque and the diesel engine churns out 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and the petrol engine also comes with an optional 4-speed automatic gearbox.

The manual petrol and diesel variant of the Hyundai Grand i10 will return a mileage of 18.9km/l and 24km/l, respectively. The automatic petrol model delivers a mileage of 16.95km/l.

Pricing

The prices of the new Hyundai Santro is expected to start from Rs 3.7 lakh ex-showroom. The base petrol model of the Hyundai Grand i10 is priced at Rs 4.91 lakh while the top-spec diesel model costs 7.32 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).

Verdict

The new Hyundai Santro is a perfect entry-level small family car and with the new design and features, the tall-boy hatchback is even more appealing. On the other hand, the Grand i10 is an excellent car for a first-time buyer with good looks and safety features. If you're on a budget, then the new Santro will be a perfect option. If you are willing to stretch the budget, then the Grand i10 will be a better option.
