Honda HR-V India Launch Details Revealed

Honda is all set to launch the new CR-V crossover SUV in the Indian market in October 2018. We had also reported that the new Honda Civic will be introduced in the country in 2019. Now, according to a report from Livemint, Honda will also launch the HR-V sub-compact SUV in India by the end of 2019.

The Honda HR-V will be slotted below the CR-V and will rival the Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. Currently, Honda does not offer any product to take on the Creta. But now, Honda is looking to explore more segments to grow its business in developing markets such as India.

Talking about the Honda HR-V, the five-seater SUV features a prominent chrome grille up front. The recently updated HR-V gets redesigned headlamps with projector lights and LED daytime running lights. The bumper is sporty and it also plays host to the fog lamps. The SUV also gets body cladding on the wheel arches and bumper.

The European-spec Honda HR-V draws power from a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 128bhp and 155Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The SUV can sprint from 0-100km/h in 10.7 seconds. With the reduced friction between the pistons and bores, the overall fuel efficiency has been improved.

The India-spec Honda HR-V is likely to utilise the same engine of the City, a 1.5-litre petrol unit tuned to produce 116bhp. In India, the HR-V will be also introduced with a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 98bhp and 200Nm of torque. Honda will offer both manual and automatic gearbox options.

Honda is expected to launch the new second-gen HR-V in the Indian market. Honda has to manufacture the HR-V in India to keep the costs down as the pricing of the SUV will be a key factor. We can expect the pricing of the HR-V to be in the range of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 13 lakh ex-showroom.

Thoughts On The Honda HR-V

The SUV segment in India has seen a rapid growth in the past few years. Now, Honda is all set to launch new products in the country and HR-V is also one of them. The Honda HR-V is a sub-compact SUV and it will be a fierce competitor to the likes of Hyundai Creta. Honda is expected to reveal more details of the HR-V in the coming months.
