Hold on to your OnePlus 5: Screen recorder and other OnePlus 7 Pro features coming to older models
The OnePlus 7 Pro is an amazing phone with some really great features that may attract many flagship smartphone buyers. While the hardware features are really impressive, OnePlus also worked on many software features in Oxygen OS to add to the overall user experience. The much-awaited native screen recorder also made it to the OnePlus 7 Pro, thereby giving gamers another reason to go for this phone. Many have been wondering whether some of these exciting software features will make it to older OnePlus phones and the answer now seems to be affirmative.
In a recent post on the official OnePlus blog, the company confirmed that it will indeed bring some of the new Oxygen OS features from the OnePlus 7 Pro to the older OnePlus devices. The features to be ported include Zen Mode, Screen Recorder, RAM Boost, Fnatic Mode, Quick Reply and DC Dimming. OnePlus hasn't released a time frame for the rollout but users can expect it within a couple of months.
As for the phones that will get the update, here's a list of all the supported OnePlus smartphones:
As usual, the 2018 OnePlus 6 series phones will get the update first followed by the OnePlus 5 series phones.
Of all these features, the Screen Recorder is the one that's highly anticipated by gamers. The native screen recorder tool will allow users to select a custom resolution, bit rate and other finer aspects. RAM Boost is another feature that will make use of the copious RAM amounts on OnePlus phones and speed up the loading times. With the Fnatic mode, players will be able to play uninterruptedly without any notifications and will experience better performance with boosted CPU performance.
Apart from these, there are some features that will help with a healthy usage pattern. The Zen Mode is an extension of Google's Digital WellBeing and helps users disconnect from the world briefly. Once the Zen Mode is enabled, the phone locks out the user for 20 minutes from all apps and games, excluding the camera. Users can also take photos and receive calls but nothing else.
