How Greg Chappell, Pravin Amre, And Delhi Capitals Helped Prithvi Shaw Bounce Back From A Slump

India’s young opening batsman Prithvi Shaw endured a torrid time in IPL 2020 for the Delhi Capitals and the Test series in Australia. Prithvi Shaw, who had scores of 0 and 4 in the first Test in Adelaide, faced an axe from the national team due to his technical deficiencies. Hence, to bounce back from such a nadir, the credit has to go to Greg Chappell, Pravin Amre, and the Delhi Capitals.

On Thursday, Prithvi Shaw became India’s eighth List A double-centurion by hammering an unbeaten 227 off 152 while opening the innings for Mumbai. The right-handed batsman cracked 31 fours and five sixes in the process as Mumbai smacked 457 in 50 overs against Puducherry in a Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture in Jaipur. In response, Puducherry managed only 224, losing by 233 runs.

Apart from Greg Chappell offering him advises, Pravin Amre revealed that he knew Prithvi Shaw would be down on confidence after his axing from the Indian team. But they only had a short timeframe before Shaw had to join the Mumbai team to enter the bio-bubble in Jaipur. Hence, being mentally down, Amre recognized, he would need help.

Knowing that he would be down on confidence after being dropped from the Indian team, the Delhi Capitals decided to help him. We only had a short time at our disposal as he had to leave with the Mumbai team for Jaipur to join the bio-bubble. We knew that he would be mentally down and thus needed help,” Amre said as quoted by Times of India.

Pravin Amre underlined that he provided his coaching experience to work on Prithvi Shaw while Delhi Capitals sent their Strength and Conditioning coach Rajinikanth Sivagnanam for the youngster’s fitness. Amre disclosed that Sivagnanam had two-hour training drills for Shaw’s fitness and he allotted a couple of hours in the nets for the 21-year old.

“We worked on him for five days. He needed moral and infrastructural support and we provided both to him. While I provided my coaching to work on his skills, the Delhi Capitals flew in their Strength and Conditioning coach Rajinikanth Sivagnanam to work on his fitness. Rajinikanth had two-hour training sessions with him on his fitness. I worked for a similar time on his batting in the nets at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana,” he added.
