Got To Know How Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, And Cheteshwar Pujara Practice – Standby Batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran Opens Up On His Time With India Squad

On Friday, Bengal captain and opener, Abhimanyu Easwaran was announced as one of the 4 standby players who will travel with the Indian squad to the UK for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and the following five-match Test series versus England.

However, it was not his first call to the national set-up – he was with the team earlier in the year in the home series against Joe Root’s side as well, albeit as a reserve batter.

His terrific record in domestic cricket has earned him recognition amongst the selectors, despite not featuring in the IPL yet – the same goes for pacer Arzan Nagwaswalla, who is also a standby bowler.

In FC cricket, Abhimanyu Easwaran has 4401 runs in 64 matches with an average of 43.57. It was his 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season, where the opener tallied 861 runs at an average of 95.66, which spot him up in the ranks.

If I get an opportunity, I will make the most of it: Abhimanyu Easwaran

Being part of the Indian squad earlier gave Abhimanyu Easwaran the opportunity to share the dressing room with the stalwarts batters. He took good notes of how Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara go about their practice session, and emulate the same in the middle.

While the 25-year-old is far from breaking in the eleven – though injuries are frequent to players in these times and one can expect a call-up anytime – he aims to return as an improved player from England – and is confident that he will come good if given an opportunity.

“We had only heard about it. We got to know how Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara practice. They are very specific. They just do what they would be doing in the match. And when you actually see them do the same thing the next day, it feels great,” Abhimanyu Easwaran told Sportstar.

“If I can improve as a player in that tour, that will be good. And if I get an opportunity, I will make the most of it,” he added.
