Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL likely to launch on October 15, may go on sale in India before Diwali
Last night at the iPhone 11 launch event Apple showed what it is bringing to the market this year. Chances are that on October 15 Google will be revealing its cards and will launch the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL phones. The upcoming Google phones, which were confirmed by Google itself months earlier and which have appeared in a number of leaks, will run on Android 10, will have a revamped camera system -- probably needed now if Google still wants Pixel ahead of the iPhone in camera -- and will come in two variants: Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL.
The information about the launch date comes courtesy an image shared by leaksters on Twitter. The image of the phone, on its clock on the wallpaper, shows 10am and date of October 15. The image was tweeted by Evan Blass who goes by name @evleaks on Twitter with a comment saying: "Google Fall Event: 10/15?"
Here is the image
When it launches, the Google Pixel 4 is going to have something common with the iPhone 11 Pro that was launched by Apple on Tuesday night. This common bit is the design of the rear camera module. We now know that the iPhone 11 Pro uses a square camera module with three lenses. Google is expected to put a similar square module, albeit with two lenses in the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL. Google's Pixel phones are considered the best at clicking photos with a lot of users deeming the Pixel 3 the current champion even though it has just one rear camera. So it is possible that even with two cameras, the Pixel 4 may end up being a better shooter than most, including the phones that come with 3 or 4 rear cameras.
Google has teased that the Pixel 4 camera will be able to let users zoom up close as well as do astrophotography (clicking star-lit sky at night).
If Google indeed ends up launching the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 on October 15, it is safe to assume that they will be available a few days before Diwali in India. Diwali is in the last week of October so chances are that the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL may go on sale in India either on October 15 itself or around October 20. These will be expensive phones, but not as expensive as the iPhone 11 Pro. Instead, the price of the Pixel 4 could be closer to the iPhone 11.
The Pixel 4 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, is likely to come with a 90Hz display. The smaller Pixel 4 is going to come with a 5.7-inch OLED screen while the Pixel 4 XL will come with a 6.3-inch OLED screen. Both phones will use metal and glass bodies. They are also likely to have at least 128GB storage and 4GB RAM. On the front, the two phones may sport single selfie camera, accompanied by Google's specialised hardware for Soli, a feature that is going to let users perform task on the phone by just waving their hands in front of it. This is something that was demoed in a leaked Pixel 4 promo video recently.
