Fadnavis tears into garibi hatao scheme
Continuing the war of words, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday took a dig at Congress President Rahul Gandhi, saying his pitch of 'Garibi Hatao' (remove poverty) would be akin to the disclaimer that appears before films and serials ascertaining them as fiction.
"Garibi Hatao was the slogan repeated by his father and grandmother. TV serials begin with the disclaimer: 'All characters in this story are imaginary'. In few days, TV channels will also show disclaimer 'Yeh bhashan kalpanik hai' (this speech is a fictitious) at the start of Rahul Gandhi's speeches," Fadnavis said after paying respects at the statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in Ahmedabad.
Taking about Prime Minister Modi's commitment to Ambedkar's legacy, Fadnavis said, "The Constitution prepared by Babasaheb gives an equal Right to Life to every individual. Modi has taken care of Ambedkar's statues and also dedicated Rs 2,600 crore to build a memorial for him. Several laws have also been modified or introduced for better safety of Dalits. People have enthusiastically participated in the recent elections. BJP will come back to power," he said.
Weighing in on Sharad Pawar's statement that late BJP leader and former defence minister Manohar Parrikar resigned from the post over disagreements with the government over Rafale deal, Fadnavis said, "Rahul
ji also attempted to say something like this earlier."
