Facebook Messenger will soon allow you to revoke messages sent within 10 minutes
WhatsApp did it and now Facebook wants to do it too. Similar to the WhatsApp's 'Delete for everyone feature', social media giant will also soon have a functionality that will let you delete messages that you have already sent via its Messenger chat platform. The feature has already been on Facebook-owned WhatsApp for a while now.
First spotted by Twitter user @MattNavarra , the feature is listed as coming soon in the release notes for the latest Messenger update for iOS users rolled out on Tuesday. "Coming soon: Remove a message from a chat thread after it's been sent. If you accidentally sent the wrong photo, incorrect information or message the wrong thread, you can easily correct it by removing the message within ten minutes of sending it," reads the note.
The time limit granted by Facebook will be of ten minutes. You can delete your sent messages within ten minutes of time frame on Messenger. This new Facebook feature has been in news since April when the company admitted that it had been secretly deleting old messages of CEO Zuckerberg. The feature has been under works for a while and was even spotted being tested internally.
It is yet unknown if the upcoming feature will also work for Secret conversations. Facebook has a secret conversation feature that uses the Signal Protocol developed by Open Whisper Systems adding end-to-end encryption to messages claiming to make them impossible for interception. The feature has to be activated within the Messenger app.
Facebook last year added the Delete for Everyone feature for WhatsApp that lets you delete sent messages from the chat. WhatsApp gives you two options- Delete for Everyone and Delete for Me. The Delete for Everyone tab allows you to delete the message for both sender and recipient while Delete for Me is for deleting messages only for you.
