India is a pioneering country which produces over 15 lacs engineers every year. The nation celebrates Engineer's Day on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvaraya, who was spearheaded education in the field of engineering.

Sir Visvesvaraya, who was a civil engineering graduate passed out from the College of Science in Pune and was appointed as chief engineer of Mysore State in 1909. The works of this Bharat Ratna awardee are applauded across the world such as irrigation system at the Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune and Mysuru's Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam.

Engineering is the most sought-after careers specifically for the present generation and Sir MV surely stands on top as the most inspiring personality for thousands of budding engineers. This field is the most opted one across the world because of its career options. Here are some of the best career options one can think about after pursuing engineering.

UPSC Indian Engineering Services (IES)

India's premier central recruitment agency's, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), conducts the Indian Engineering Services (IES) for recruitment to Group A services/posts in the country. The recruitment is based on the top four categories namely, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronics & telecommunication engineering. Candidates can take up this option to serve the nation with the highest of position being offered.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

GATE, which is jointly hosted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), is conducted for admission to ME/MTech and PhD programmes at IITs, IISc, NITs, GFTIs and other universities in India. Candidates can pursue masters which helps a lot in career advancement.

Diploma Courses

Pursuing diploma courses is another best option for engineering graduates who are not interested in a full-time M.Tech. They can add some diploma course specialisation to their resume which will help a lot in finding employment. Study Abroad

There is no looking back for the career after pursuing masters in engineering at the world's top universities. In order to pursue masters in engineering at foreign countries, the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score is mandatory. Along with GRE, one has to appear for English proficiency tests such as IELTS or TOEFL.

PSU Jobs For Engineers

After graduating in engineering, one will find a plethora of opportunities in the government and public sectors companies.
