Coronavirus News LIVE Updates: After two consecutive weeks of decline in Covid-19 deaths, India registered a 19 percent rise in the week ending on Sunday. However, the rise was mainly driven by the 12,573 backlog deaths added to the toll. The deaths in the seven days constituted half of 25,000 deaths recorded during the last seven days, making the week's fatalities highest in the three weeks, Times of India reported.
Maharashtra has recorded the highest backlog of 8,622 deaths while Bihar accounted for 3,951 during June 7-13. Backlog deaths are fatalities from the past days that remained unreported due to delays by hospitals or other reasons.
Goa on Sunday extended Covid-19 curfew till June 21 as the positivity rate in the state stood at 14 per cent, an official said. The curfew was first imposed on May 9 and has been extended several times since then, as the state witnessed its positivity rate reaching a high of 51 per cent before dipping gradually to the level now, he added.
Meanwhile, the Haryana government also extended the lockdown by another week till June 21, while easing several restrictions. Doing away with the odd-even formula, the state government allowed all shops to open from 9 am to 8 pm.
Delhi will reopen from today as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced opening of restaurants with 50 per cent capacity, weekly markets and religious places, saying the COVID-19 situation has significantly come under control in the city. Salons, beauty parlours and barber shops closed since the imposition of lockdown on April 19, will also reopen from Monday, officials said.
