Semiconductor companies are in growth mode again, and market tracker Gartner raised its forecast for worldwide chip sales to 6.7% growth this year — up from 5.4% previously — led by memory chips. But Gartner expects growth to slip next year as inventory builds. It sees global chip sales of $336 bil this year. The report comes when shares of several chipmakers, including SanDisk (SNDK), Atmel (ATML) and Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), have been rising. Atmel shares fell 2% to 9.14, and Skyworks fell 2.3% to 46.81. SanDisk was flat.
